Just south
of the Visitor Center patio, this garden was reworked in 2001 to solve drainage problems and to construct a more dramatic water
feature. Visitors are able to see a wide variety of ground covers to
help them select those they want to use in their own gardens.
The
Atsuhiko and Ina Goodwin Tateuchi Foundation funded the design and
construction of a viewing pavilion, Groundcover Garden terrace, and
bridge.
Designed by Robert Hoshide of the firm Hoshide-Williams
Architects, with input from the Bellevue Parks Department and the
Bellevue Botanical Garden Society, the pavilion and terrace use elements
of Northwest and Asian architectural styles.
The Pavilion has commanding
views to the Groundcover Garden and Rhododendron glen.
