Landscaping Value: An excellent ground cover for that hot and dry spot of the landscape or in a rock garden tumbling down.

This little shrub provides a continuous display of color for a long time. Make sure to provide excellent drainage and don’t over water even though the branch terminals droop, this is its natural growing form.

Pinch back young plants to encourage bushy specimens and shear back to encourage late season re-blooming.

Plant type: Evergreen or semi evergreen subshrub, spreading, low mound of wiry stems.
Family: Cistaceae
Height/Spread: 6-8" high and a 3’ spread

Common Name: Rock Rose or Sunrose
Leaves: Opposite or alternate, oblong to linear, ½ to 1", matte colored, fuzzy leaves.
Flower:
  Single, 5 petal or double forms, 1" wide, red, apricot, yellow, orange, pink or white often with an orange basal spot. Blooms last one day but new buds continue to open from May through July.
Conditions: Needs full sun to bloom, hot and excellent drainage, pH leaning towards alkaline (but shows no significant difference in NW native soils.) Do not over water
Disease/pests: 
Generally pest and disease free.
Bloom Period:
Continuous blooming May through July in the NW
Natural Rang:
Americas, Europe, Mediterranean, N. Africa, Asia Minor.
Hardiness:
All Zones to 14F. Needs winter protection with boughs in the coldest of winter areas.
