Other
cultivars/Species:
Miscanthus sinensis ‘Gracillimus’. MAIDEN GRASS.
Narrow dark green leaves with silver midrib; graceful
clump to 4-5 ft high, 6-8 ft wide. Stems 5-6 ft. tall
bear coppery plumes that mature to cream. Bright orange
fall foliage.
Miscanthus sinensis ‘Morning Light’. Sport of ‘Gracillimus’,
with narrow bank of white on leaf margins; less vigorous
and more compact than ‘Gracillimus’. Grows to 3-4 ft
high and as wide; coppery flower plumes reach 5-6 ft.
tall. “It is simply ravishing in October and November,
when it turns rich shades of gold and orange.” (from
“Fall Lessons” buy Sydney Eddison, October 2001,
Horticulture Magazine)
Miscanthus sinensis ‘Strictus’. This stiffly
upright selection is used to its best advantage when
backlit by morning or evening light, when the
interrupted bands of translucent yellow along the entire
length of leaf are most evident. The tall though narrow
columns, to 5 ft., topped in late summer by graceful
silky heads of flowers, provide the vertical punctuation
so often needed in herbaceous borders, while the added
interest of this curious variegation offers yet another
dimension of possible play. |
