Hydrangea serrata ‘Preziosa’

Other cultivars/Species:  Other Hydrangea serrata cultivars found in the BBG include:  ‘Beni Gaku’ in the Rhododendron Garden, ‘Blue Bird’ and ‘Veitchii’ in Yao, ‘Blue Deckle’ in the Perennial Border, and ‘Jogasaki’, ‘Kiyosumi’ and ‘Shirotae’ in the Groundcover Garden.
Extra notes and interesting information:  Extra notes and interesting information:  Most mophead hydrangeas grown today are blue or pink depending on the amount of aluminum in the soil’s composition and the Ph of the soil.  Generally the lower soil pH produces more blueness; a higher pH more pink or redness.  According to www.hydrangeashydrangeas.com, to dry these beautiful flowers naturally, let them dry a bit on the plant before cutting (experiment with August through October).  As long as the stems are sturdy it’s not necessary to hanging them upside-down to dry.  To retain extremely natural hydrangea color, use Silica Gell to dry blooms.
