Until
1929 the genus Weigela was
classified with
the genus Diervilla, a N.
American native. The
family Weigela consists of 10-12 species
and over 200 named cultivars, not all of
which are still in cultivation.

notes and interesting information:
Weigela florida ‘Variegata’ is a
Great Plant Pick and
was awarded the Garden Merit Award of
the RHS.
Weigela hybridize freely, therefore
cultivars are
best grown from cuttings to become true.
Coloration of flowers and margin, as
well as
mature plant’s size, can vary, depending
on grower.

leaves up to 4”, variegated with yellow to creamy white edges,
oblong in shape with toothed margins.

Characteristics:
1- 1.25” pink,
funnel-shaped blossoms, single or in clusters, all along previous
seasons’ growth.
Fruit:
Smooth
capsules which contain numerous small seeds.
Diseases/Pests:
Not
very susceptible, easy to grow.
Growing Conditions: Prefers
rich, well-drained soil, and full sun to partial shade, but is very
adaptable.
Hardiness:
USDA zones 6 to 9.
